Sage Grinder Safety Advice....Guard Related....
I have the guard on a couple of my grinders but off of a couple others.
The guard is off my 4 1/2" cheap Chinese $15 grinder that I use with a 4" diamond blade and for grinding metal. It is also off my 5" that I have my turbo cup on because they would get in the way in both occasions; particularly for grinding metal sculptures in those hard to reach places..... I like the cheap, lightweight Chinese grinder because I can easily use it with one hand. I will tell you a safety precaution I take though when using those two grinders: I wear a thick, good-fitting all-leather glove on my left hand and it has saved a lot of skin on many occasions when I get nicked or dinged.... On the occasions where I have not worn my glove, I have scars to attest.
My 7-inch and 9-inch grinders that I use for cutting with the diamond blades always keep their guards up....
Take that for what it is worth, and remember: "Free advice is usually worth exactly what you pay for it...."
The best advice is whether the guard is on or off, be attentive and NEVER be in a hurry... work slow and carefully.....
