Subject:
marble or dolomite
hello everyone
how can I tell the difference between a white marble and dolomite? both are from the same general area, eastern Ontario, Canada.
I thought this was a marble block I'm working on, but a local rockhound suggests that it is dolomite.
the dust/ground of the stone seems a bit grainier than marble I've worked in the past, though the stone polishes well, and chips well (if a bit on the tough side). my colleague said that the sparkly, quartz-like particles in the chips signify dolomite - he said marble chips are dull, don't have these intense reflective particles. is this correct?
any comments would be appreciated.
