Strengthening thin stone with epoxy
Bill
I had an interesting accident a while back where I spilled some
polyurethane on a piece of limestone I was carving. It darkened the area
but I also found that by it soaking in and drying, it made it
considerably tougher. I've since used it to make some pieces chip
resistant. You have to put it on in very even coats and avoid letting
any soak in much while reloading the brush however as you'll be able to
see where you stopped then started again.
I do very fine and detailed carving so this helps a bunch.
Give it a try on a scrap piece and see what happens.
