I used to work for UPS. The weight limit is, in fact, 150 lbs. These
heavier packages are loaded onto the trailers last but often can come
tumbling out when they are unloaded. This is because they tip up the
front of the trailer so that packages can roll down the built in
conveyor/rollers. If you are shipping an "open" piece, I would also
suggest using a wooden crate.
Also, I might add that packing peanuts by themselves are a poor choice
of protection. They settle a great deal in transit and the allow the
item to ramble around quite a bit. The new air space created also adds
to the likelihood that the package may be crushed in that area if it is
dropped or something heavier is set upon it.
