Subject: Stroke Sander for inlay work

Hello,

Recently I purchased a Stroke Sander for stainless steel countertop work.
This is a woodworking machine but they are commonly used for metal as well.
After some research on the web, I found that they are also used to hone down
metal inlays into wood table tops.

This made me think of all the beautiful inlayed stone table tops that I saw
in Pietrasanta and Carrara.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using these machines for
stone inlay work and what type of belts to use(silicon carbide being my
choice) The final polish would be a bit of a concern over a big flat surface
as well with different stones taking the polish differently(What belt for
that?). Any other concerns? Later in the week I'll be going to the
abrasives supplier for the metal belts and would like to know some more
questions about the stone working belts. Is this even a good idea?

Here's a link to the machine but mine has a power lift table(not the hand
crank).
I will have to check with the serial number but the power lift table are
usually rated for 300lbs but it could be up to 500lbs

Thanks in advance,
