Matching up a hammer and chisel is a funny thing. I'm always trying to get
to the point where the work is nearly effortless so I can work a full day
and not be ruined for three.
I have a lot of old points that are square 3\4 and 7\8" stock, and are drawn
to a very sharp point. If I don't use a 3 pound hammer the amount of stone
removed is not worth the effort. For the bigger hammers to be effective you
really have to let the hammer swing freely. It's kind of like swinging a
golf club. You've got to swing right through the ball.
Good hammering to you!
