Subject:
fine cut riffler files
Hi Clive,
In the past I have gotten some die-sinker's rifflers (not rasps, but
very fine cut files in about a dozen different shapes) from the Cooper
Tools Group, Nicholson File division here in the States. I had to
special order them through a distributor as I could not find anybody
who stocked them. They are great for working very fine detail into
marble, leaving a cut similar to the surface left by 150-180 grit
sandpaper.
I just looked on the web and the link to Cooper Tools Industries North
America is:
http://www.cooperhandtools.com/brands/nicholson_files/index.cfm
They still list the die sinker's rifflers, although their selection of
available shapes is decreased to perhaps a third of the selection I
bought some years ago. They also list 'silversmith's rifflers' in
similar shapes.
Out of interest I looked at the Cooper Tools Industries Australia link
and they don't show any rifflers in their 'file' listing at all.
I have seen jewler's supply catalogs that have listed the very-fine
cut rifflers as well, but I cannot recall the specific supplier's
names as I never purchased from them.
The manufacturer Grobet (Swiss, I think) USA site below lists several
dozen die sinker's riffler styles, but the webpages show no pictures:

Hope that info helps.
Good filing to you,
Don
