My early work in nephrite jade and other indigenous New Zealand stones has led to work in granite and marble sourced globally. The work is monumental celebrating the place of stone in the 21st century.

My name is Brett Tutauanui Keno. I am a New Zealand Stone Carving Artist and Sculptor. This site contains photos and information about me and my sculpture. Here you will find images and information about my art as well as news of my past and current stone carving activities. I find inspiration in the natural world around me through my Maori heritage which came to me later in life, so I always incorporate traditional or stylized Maori designs into my sculptures and stone carvings.
Location: New Zealand (Upper Hutt).

As New Zealand stone sculptor I am largely involved with capturing moments of movement in stone. Each panel presents a living organic flow that ever changes with the light. The essence of bringing Oamaru Stone to life is by sculpting light, the stone is just used as a projection to define the way light flows and floods, often revealing many moods within ambient illumination. A core theme to these works is the expresstion of growth and potential and often with forms so characteristc of this land yet expressive of us all, the spirit of the land in a sense .... A background of bonecarving, labyrinths, broad connections with nature feed the creativity and chisels towards this breathing of light into stone.

Experiments by trial and error carving NZ Jade 1967 resulted in the first piece being sold in 1968 and instigated a life time exploration of sculpting hard stone media. Donn's unique, creative New Zealand jade carving and sculpture are recognised world wide. Illustrations of the extrodinary skill achieved in sculpting this incredible, mystical gift of the Earth are recorded on his website. All works are by commission. They are individual pieces worked either for the stone as it may suggest the form or in some instances carved to a specific, predetermined design dictated by the stone.
