Wisconsin-Norid born artist, Patricia Bengtson-Jones continues to find perfect balance in order to bring a spirit of motion. She uses monolithic forms, arches, stacking or layering to denote time past, while working with the elements (earth, water, sun and stone) to bring unity. This life voyage sheds some light on the unexplained phenomena of past cultures, enabling the sculpture to settle in a fantasy of somewhere between the worlds of mind and earth.

My medium is monumental stone. I collaborate with the stones ... choosing areas where I alter the stone. In doing this I attempt to create a harmony between the alteration and the original stone ... to add a new history to the old. Simultaneously while altering the stone, I am also using the same process in 'preparing' the site/environment. The sculpture and environment become one/inseparable. Often times metal and/or water is combined with the stone. Suzanne Biaggi, a stone sculptor located in Nothern California, does commissioned site specific sculptures for collectors, and public art projects that are installed in all parts of the United States. She works with architects, private clients, and public agencies.

As a stone sculptor, I am drawn towards organic shapes, patterns, and textures naturally occurring in the environment. While utilizing each stone’s “imperfections” and “impurities” to enhance and strengthen the dynamic design composition of a piece, I let the stone speak for itself and strive to bring out each stone’s innate features, textures and colors. In the end, the stone dictates and determines the final piece.

I have been working in stone for over 10 years. I work mainly in the abstract figurative, often concentrating on a specific body part (or a whole figure with an emphasis on a specific nuance). I have worked with sculptors John Cody, Carlyle Montgomery, Chris Lauer, and Jon Fisher. My work explores the human body, looking for the tension, curve or drape that will convey a feeling or thought.

My sculptures in stone are both figurative and abstract. Many of the themes are related to children and motherhood and their scales range from tabletop size to very large public sculptures 9-12' in height. I work in marble, limestone and alabaster using both power and hand tools.

I carve stone that I have purchased and collected from Southern California Deserts, Utah and parts of Europe. My stones are exotic in color and translucency, and their natural textures are preserved when ever possible. I carve by free association incorporating my observations of organic forms, energy moving in space, and found objects. In my studio/gallery the general public and visually impaired are encouraged to touch and rotate these sculptures as part of the experience. I am in Ventura, California and offer classes.

I create organic, abstract stone sculpture in marble, alabaster, limestone, sandstone, and soapstone. Creating fine art gives expression to the transformative power of Beauty, which awakens within us a sense that greater harmony and balance can be achieved in a seemingly chaotic Universe. It also transports us beyond ourselves, confirming that Creativity renders Evolution irrefutable.
