My mission as a sculptor is to create a visual record of modern culture by capturing contemporary everyday objects in stone. By replicating the model on a life-scale along with marking and symbol details, I attempt to freeze the object in time as an artistic form of artifact. I achieve this high degree of realism through the use of such materials as parts of the real object, custom-made stains, paints, plastics and gold leaf.

Alan Brazier is a contemporary stone sculptor working in an abstract figurative style, stone used includes Alabaster, Marble, Granite, Slate and Portland stone. Alan Brazier uses the human form to express themes of human nature. Curves, angles, and surfaces of his sculpture induce a certain level of abstraction as well as work together to create movement and energy. Now a resident of New York City, the environment has undoubtedly influenced recent works. In many of these works new mediums such as steel, water, and glass have been introduced in addition to stone and bring new challenges for the future.

Philippe Faraut is a figurative artist specializing in life-size portraits and monumental stone sculptures. His media of choice are water-based clay and marble. From his extensive research of the human face he developed a technique of modeling the portrait that teaches during his sculpting classes and seminars taught throughout the US. During his stone carving workshops offered at his NY studio, students can experiment with both figurative and abstract stone carving in marble, alabaster, limestone or travertine. Philippe has created a set of sculpting supplies, an instructional sculpting video series and a book detailing his process for portraiture in clay. Artists in fields such as illustration, sculpture, forensic reconstruction, art education and film and theater utilize his three-dimensional masks as reference for the aging process and in-depth studies of expression. As an award-winning stone sculptor specializing in representational art, Philippe feels that the renewed interest and willingness of artists to return to the study of the human form has the potential to bring back to our society an appreciation for traditional beauty.

I have always carved. As a child I carved wood and broke stones open out of curiosity. Fortunately, I discovered stone sculpture in college in 1976, and have been growing as an artist ever since. I now break stones open with the curiosity of a child, and fulfill the need to create stone sculpture that expresses my feelings and emotions. Abstract, realistic, organic and figurative styles have blended together for me. I follow my instincts and carve until my head, heart and hands are satisfied. My studio is located in Batavia, western New York. Contact and visits are always welcome. You can see past work and ongoing projects at the web site.

Isherwood has gone inside the stone to reveal its essential soul. His elegant abstractions hint at the human condition, drawing parallels beetween structure and psyche. Close, protective faces cloak a secret interior that can only be perceived through narrow openings. His sculpture ask you to go beyond your visual senses to enter them and imagine what it would feel like to be on the inside. For Jon Isherwood, process engenders meaning; and evidence of process provokes curiosity without disguise.

I am a stone carver and letter cutter trained in England. I use traditional tools, specializing in fine incised and raised lettering, as well as high and bas-relief carving. I use a variety of stones including slate, limestone, sandstone and marble. My work encompasses classical carving and projects in which the natural shape and texture of the stone are incorporated into the design. I create memorial headstones, benches and plaques in close collaboration with clients for whom individual designs are drawn up. Other commissions include sundials, ornamental inscriptions and outdoor stone artwork. My work is in many public places including Marist College and the Metropolitan Museum in New York, a visitors' center in Egypt, and pedestrian walkways in Falkirk, Scotland.

My ideas and subjects are borrowed from antiquity with each piece telling a story. Antiquity provides a wealth of resources for my work; warriors, the myths, Venus figures, beasts, demigods and shaman/priests are the subjects I appropriate. In executing an idea, the importance of light and shadow, through the use of negative space is a primary concern in the work. Some pieces attempt to stress movement, while the god and shaman/priest series attempts to evoke a sense of mysticism with surface and shape being of more importance. Each new stone, whether it is irregular or a rectangular cube of white Carrara or Belgian black, tells me what to do and even determines how I sculpt it.

http://www.randolphlee.com/sculpture/
Randolphlee's recent contemporary figurative sculpture moves away from modernism's schematic interpretation of nature towards one that interprets through reconciliation with nature. Rejecting the clichéd aesthetics of Duchamp and the Dadaist school, as well as Realism, primitivism, abstraction, Surrealism, Pop and Conceptual art, these new works instead draw their inspiration from areas of the classical Greeks and the Renaissance. Sculptures in bronze, concrete, marble and plaster, ranging from sculpture in the round to complex bas-reliefs, develop problems of three dimensional, tactile form also addressed in the artist's paintings and drawings.
