I live and work on Long Island New York. I prefer to work with marble and the female figure. My method of carving is adopted from the ancient Greek sculptors: From the initial outlining of the rough figure to the final stages of smoothing the stone, the sculpture is treated as a whole. I work by constantly moving around the stone. One part is never completely finished. The entire sculpture evolves as one entity. I like to leave parts of the figure unfinished, a limb still imprisoned in the marble block.

DMS Studios. DMS Studios was established in 1979 when Daniel Sinclair returned from Italy after spending 10 years studying the art of stone carving with the world's greatest masters of the craft. Today the principle activity at DMS Studios is the production of custom handcarved fireplace mantels and artistic items such as sculpture, statuary, and architectural elements for interior and exterior use. Many of our customers have come to rely on us for a fireplace design to compliment their interiors because they know we maintain an extensive library of fireplace designs, both traditional and modern.

My studio is in Putnam Valley, New York. My sculptures are direct carvings mostly from marble. Based on the human figure they present a harmonious interplay of organic forms and include torsos, standing, sitting or reclining figures. Priority is given to the symbolic expression of human emotions and interactions. The sculptures reflect the compact nature of stone, are medium sized on the average 30" high and 50 lbs in weight. They can be placed with relative ease on pedestals. I prefer that sculptures should be looked at and touched. It is difficult to describe them.
