The Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture in Britain and Ireland (CRSBI) is an evolving electronic archive of British and Irish Romanesque stone sculpture. Romanesque sculpture marks a high point of artistic production in Britain and Ireland, corresponding to the boom in high-quality building that followed the Norman Conquest in 1066, and reflecting a new set of links with mainland Europe. A good deal of this sculpture remains in parish churches and cathedrals, houses and halls, castles and museums throughout these isles.

Many medieval sculptures were removed from their original monuments long ago and eventually sold to private and public collections. Art historians can suggest an original site of a sculpture on the basis of stylistic analysis, but now scientists have developed a powerful technology, neutron activation analysis. Data stored in the Missouri University Research Reactor Database allow scholars to: group sculptures thought to have a common origin, based on the hypothesis that like composition implies a common stone source; relate sculpture of unknown origin to a monument or to the region or quarry that may have furnished stone for its production; and answer questions about building campaigns.

Through the Lens of a Natural Stone Photography -"For most people, the combination of extreme weather, salt air and cold granite would not constitute an eye-catching or appealing photography subject. Les sees such scenery differently. He captures the essence and beauty of natural stone through the lens of his camera. Using the natural light reflected off the Atlantic Ocean, Les’ work, such as, “Chapters on a Quarry Wall” and “Below the Keystone Bridge” are impressive images of a stone industry long forgotten. The way Les beautifully captured the old drill marks, weathered quarry benches, and spectrum of colors bleeding out from the oxidizing granite was inspirational, and it also supported my belief that stone, a product of nature, is a green material, and its extraction only leaves a temporary scar on the landscape." from 'The Challenging Task of Teaching Green' by Dan Ouellette, Stone World, May 2006
