In 1981 Shlomit Averbuch returned to Israel after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where she studied for five years under the famous sculptor, Pericles Paccini. This followed two years spent at the Free Academy in The Hague, Holland. Right after graduating, Shlomit Averbuch's sculpture Motherhood won the prestigious Marcus Aurelius Prize awarded by the Municipality of Rome. At around the same time Shlomit began participating in group exhibitions in Rome and throughout Italy. She spent the next two years specializing in stone work at a marble sculpting workshop in the well-known village of Pietra Santa near Carrara. Upon returning to Israel, she was immediately commissioned to create a sculpture for the Youth Park in the city of Carmiel and has since created around fifty environmental sculptures which are installed around Israel as well as abroad.
