I have been working in stone for over 10 years. I work mainly in the abstract figurative, often concentrating on a specific body part (or a whole figure with an emphasis on a specific nuance). I have worked with sculptors John Cody, Carlyle Montgomery, Chris Lauer, and Jon Fisher. My work explores the human body, looking for the tension, curve or drape that will convey a feeling or thought.

Scott Cahaly has been carving stone since 1997. At times his work conveys a renaissance figural sentiment and others a tribal shamanistic quality. His love for the carving process leads him to what he calls "hours of timeless intoxicating freedom." Working in marble, alabaster, and soapstone, the scale of his work ranges from several pounds to several thousand pounds. Scott exhibits his work in the Boston and New York areas.

I carve stone that I have purchased and collected from Southern California Deserts, Utah and parts of Europe. My stones are exotic in color and translucency, and their natural textures are preserved when ever possible. I carve by free association incorporating my observations of organic forms, energy moving in space, and found objects. In my studio/gallery the general public and visually impaired are encouraged to touch and rotate these sculptures as part of the experience. I am in Ventura, California and offer classes.
Location: USA (Ventura, California).

Art is a type of language which helps us visually communicate emotional and physical responses to the world we live in. We need art to enrich our environment, to develop our creative responses, to learn about culture and society through the study of art and to communicate ideas visually through skilful handling of materials.I try to create art which pushes visual language in new directions involving myself in a dialogue through material, language, meaning and function. I see my art as part of a continuous dialogue between me and my audience. Through my art I treat and respect the material as a living force crying to be freed.
