Rebecca uses white marble in combination with rubber to convey the effects of oil comsumption upon glacial ice. Wilderness and the effects of human activity are the conceptual core of her work. Her previous work conveys her longterm commitment to making a difference through addressing the issues of human comsumption of resources and the pollution caused by these activities.

My sculpture reflects an intense relationship between myself and the material with which I am working. For me, art is an intensification of nature. By this I mean that my art is the process of taking from a natural object, the qualities which seem most beautiful to me, and expanding those qualities to create a sculpture. I am interested in the shapes and textures of organic matter such as fossils, shells, and bones. The force of life and growth in animals and plants fascinates me. Landscapes such as mountains and forests are also a common subject of my art. My sculptures and paintings are abstracted from these natural objects in my efforts to find and portray what seems to me to be the most central and vital part of my subject. I try to integrate my impression of the most beautiful qualities of each material with the effects of natural weathering and a manual process of sculpting that material. My sculptures become a collaboration between myself and nature.

My sculpture is carved from an array of stone sources, marble, calcite, alabaster. The work includes many types of stone as well as some glass and other elements as each piece dictates. Although my work is predominately abstract in style and subject, is it not always non- representational. The work can be viewed at the studio in San Francisco, California, the web site and shows at galleries. Inspiration for my work is created from a personal view of alchemy; it is the transitional aspect, the magical point when one thing becomes another that interests me. For each piece, I work to express the essence of transition, the process of transformation. Native cultures and mystical, mythological traditions, the fusion of material and concept, as well as the natural color and structure of the stone, are the elements which converge to inform the design of these sculptures.

I'm a Dutch sculptor and this website is my gallery. I like to work with stones people throw away. Give them a new destination. I find those pieces of natural stones on the streets or in containers. My sculptures are clear and simple, mostly abstract.
