An online gallery for the sculpture of Chris Hall. "My sculpture has evolved over the last 30 years from being a projection of an 'idea' to a direct experience with my chosen media: stone and wood. In practice this means responding to the hidden qualities of particular pieces of found material and the work that nature has already begun. I have learned that for a creative dialogue to begin I need only look closely at what is already happening in a given piece of rock, wood, landscape or plant. I like to place sculpture in a context that has meaning for me. Therefore I have undertaken work in sacred places, for example the cloister carvings at Iona Abbey, or in landscapes I have designed or chosen. An important aspect of my work is bespoke commissions and memorials, where a significant relationship is necessary between craftsman and client."

Fine Art & Architectural Sculpture in Stone, Wood and Steel. I carve in a variety of stones including Limestone, Sandstone, Granite, Marble and various Soapstones. Since I have a passion for wildlife, I usually sculpt along this theme, but I also do abstract pieces, installations and architectural work such as benches, planters, fireplaces and more. I have developed a unique method of carving and painting my subject onto pieces of limestone/sandstone, resulting in pieces that are vibrant and life-like, and which retain a rugged, wild essence, since they bring with them some of their natural environment through the stone. With my work, I seek to harmonize the natural and spiritual world with our modern lifestyles, bringing balance to our souls.

Oliver Harwood has been carving stone for over 10 years, including marble, granite and limestone. His stone sculptures range from figurative and representational to contemporary abstract. Currently his stone carvings explore his understanding of the connection between history, ancient civilizations and contemporary society. More recently, he has experimented with the transitional nature of light by incorporating elements of laminated glass into his sculptural works.

Bat-Ami Herelman is an Israeli artist which works primarily in Stone. To her, the stone is a feminine sensuous substance despite its virile image. It appears hard but gentleness and tenderness can be extracted from it. The stone is female; it is the earth's, mother-earth's body. You cannot place a "please do not touch" sign next to Bat-Ami Helerman's sculptures. Whoever looks at them, knows this is a restriction impossible to abide by. Helerman's sculptures tantalize viewers. They are made of stone but emanate extraordinary softness. In Bat-Ami's capable hands the stone turns into a soft creased dress, an airy brazier, a bride's lace crown.

For me it's the ultimate challenge to create original and unique artwork out of a block of stone. It's some kind of magic how every piece of rock contains its own "biggest possible" sculpture inside, you 'just' have to remove the rest of the stone which you don't need for your sculpture! I make abstract and figurative sculptures out of Belgian and Irish blue stone, French limestone, marble, black hard stone like 'Noir de Mazy' and basalt. I start sculpting directly without any models or drawings, I uses only the 'taille-directe' method. I have made some female nudes, flowers, garden statues, a celtic inspired relief, trible heads, abstracts, fantasy creatures like a dragon. I've just finished a fish sculptured in lime stone: 'Marine life on shore'
Location: Belgium (Zottegem Velzeke).
