Randolphlee's recent contemporary figurative sculpture moves away from modernism's schematic interpretation of nature towards one that interprets through reconciliation with nature. Rejecting the clichéd aesthetics of Duchamp and the Dadaist school, as well as Realism, primitivism, abstraction, Surrealism, Pop and Conceptual art, these new works instead draw their inspiration from areas of the classical Greeks and the Renaissance. Sculptures in bronze, concrete, marble and plaster, ranging from sculpture in the round to complex bas-reliefs, develop problems of three dimensional, tactile form also addressed in the artist's paintings and drawings.

My practise of art is integral and reflects the natural spiral of consciousness as it evolves in time. The art is contemplative and meditative in nature, affording multiple perspectives as tools for personal change and discovery. The resonance of the art speaks to freedom and the natural unfoldment of humanity. Commissions are co-created with the comissioner and the artist via conversations. Meditation on the conversations by the artist, along with stone choice, and settings round out the experience. These commissioned pieces are intimate processes which result in a very personal, unique, and integrally stable work of art which will continue to interest and inform its owners for lifetimes.

Since the early 1990’s my passion as a sculptor has been focused on exploring formal issues. Toward this end, my process of carving stone is driven by an enthusiasm for fresh discoveries. I have found this is facilitated by beginning each sculpture with a foundational concept which directs my focus, but in general I prefer not to work from maquettes or drawings. My work develops from decisions made in the moment over the course of a month or more. I believe this approach more easily allows for the interplay of the subconscious which is ultimately where one responds most deeply to any work of art, especially abstract work.

Proud of her fourth Generation San Franciscan heritage, Melanie Miguel's sculptures, both figurative and abstract, show the influence of living with the ocean and flowing hills as background to her exploration of the strength and beauty in women. In some cases using the vessel as metaphor, Miguel’s sculptures depict the multi-dimensionality of “the feminine”. She is a mother of daughters, and was a dancer and midwife before she began carving. Miguel challenges us with the primal magnetic pull of the hollows and curves in these pieces. Their grounded organic shapes are already known and familiar to us.

The website contains some of my recent works in stone and moss. They are made with different sizes of granite boulders with growing moss planted on them. They are actually living sculptures. When I visited some boulders' reserves in the North of Poland in Podlasie region I was struck with unbelievable colours of moss and lichens covering the stones. It appeared to me that they are real "globes" themselves with theirs fauna and flora of many kinds. They may be exhibited in the open in the garden or park as well as in the gallery conditions, but then with some watering. The animals, frogs and lizards I called "Decorative" as they were made as a kind of afterthought just for fun, so to speak.

Profile: John M. Morris has been an illustrator since 1968. He is president of Invotech, an art services, design and software company. He has been a consistent winner in World Design Contest including the Grand Prize for Landscapes. John is also the recipient of the Frank R. Smith Award for Distinguished Communications. He resides in a beachfront community on Long Island's north shore. Artist's Statement: If you listen to John Lennon's song Imagine it would be difficult not to understand his message. Take away his singing and the meaning is difficult to grasp. My goal is to help the viewer hear the voice of my art and understand the language of my creation. Michelangelo's David is just a big naked white guy unless we understand that: The voice tells us that… he is the biblical figure David and the language says… that the greatness in that biblical event was not that he defeated the Goliath but that David had the faith in God to face the giant. Creating is like breathing. It is my way of life.
