A resident of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, since 1966, Steven Snyder has been sculpting stone since 1981. Self-taught, he entered stone sculpting through his work as a stone mason which he began in 1976. Fascinated by early Pennsylvania stone architecture, the diversity of indigenous stone in Bucks County, and the tradition of stone carving and shaping in this region, he began exploring form and texture through simple carvings in native stone. His work includes sculpture and fountains made almost exclusively from Bucks County stone and found objects. Snyder opens his studio and sculpture garden every year two weekends in mid May, for an art show which includes other area artists.

I am a stone carver and letter cutter based in Brighton, East Sussex. I work predominently in stone and wood for public and private commissions, including The Old Manor Hospital, Salisbury (sculpture) and Roman Gardens, St Albans Cathedral (lettering). I also teach stone carving and lettering in adult education, schools and prisons. Ideas behind my sculpture are often influenced by organic forms, materials and their environment. I am interested in the geometric structures, patterns, proportion and symmetry found in nature and the unfolding of numbers in space.
