Stone sculptor works in Longueuil near Montreal, Canada. Sculptures are mostly abstract, influenced by natural forms and textures. Planned sculptures are influenced by studies in jewellery, producing pure lines combined with simplicity of form. Stone used include soapstone, alabaster, limestone, marble and travertine. Also produce works on paper to link with textures in my sculptures. Sculpteur en pierre qui travaille à Longueuil, près de Montréal, Canada.Les sculptures sont abstraites ou influencées par une formation en joaillerie, avec les lignes pures et une simplicité de forme. Sculptures of marble, stone and bronze representing animals and humans. Independance is timeless. "My work is the expression of an immediate experience in seeing, of the perception with all senses. I feel solely obliged to the subject's essential content I find in nature. Coming up to this subject's deepest content, the precise observation is mandatory to get in touch with. Accomplishing this emotional view, the ability to translate the impression into a sculpture is a mandatory prerequisite."

I am an operating room nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Md. I use the surgery drill bits to carve detail into my original marble sculptures. The drill bits are carbide burs and are very costly and durable. I also recycle the diamond burs as they are a single use item and are normally tossed out after each case. My message is to encourage everyone to create something.

Sarah Mae Wasserstrum, Sculptress. Selected Sculpture and Philosophies. Stone years are a path connecting the profound mystery of the Origin with future promise. Touched by these masses of nobility, I am taught the changing dimensions and fluidity of time. I am tutored in purity. Stone's radiant spirit is independent of shape. Shape merely makes its spirit apparent. This inner pattern does not weaken or break with physical changes. Stone is, as is everything, constantly in transit. In order for its power to continue unmarred, respect must be ones tool. In the process of altering the shape of the mass I am a tool following a creator, a path to a goal. On the way is a lesson, a lesson in compassion, in soft, loving power. This power is both noble and omnipresent. Slowly the shape sheds its cover to the point of clarity. The energy is released, the statement is made. The stone remains eternally majestic. I remain eternally grateful for yet another lesson.

I studied typography and letterforms at the University of Reading and since 1984 I have been designing and carving inscriptions in stone, slate and wood. I carve inscriptions for public buildings and public spaces, private memorials - headstones and plaques, shopefront lettering, inscriptions for gardens, domestic pieces such as breadboards and bowls. For many years I collaborated with Ian Hamilton Finlay, contributing works to international exhibitions, private collections and to his garden, Stonypath. I have designed medals for the Royal Mint and teach lettering at the University of Reading as a visiting lecturer. Apart from a spell working with a lettercarver in the USA I have always worked for myself. I work almost entirely to commission from my workshop and studio at my home in Wiltshire where I live with my husband, a member of The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and my young family. I am a member of The Art Workers Guild and Letter Exchange.
Location: UK (Wiltshire).
